Message from The Premier

As Premier of New Brunswick, I am pleased to welcome filmgoers and filmmakers to the 8th annual Silver Wave Film Festival.

Silver Wave is one of our province’s premier cultural events and the Government of New Brunswick is proud to sponsor this vibrant and entertaining festival for another season.

In just seven short years, this celebration of the wonder and beauty of filmmaking has grown from a small showing of provincial film talent into a multi-day, multi-venue showcase of the best in New Brunswick, Canadian and foreign film.

A healthy film industry is an important part of the growing and vibrant cultural sector here in New Brunswick Enhancing and promoting our unique culture and cultural industries such as film is an important component in our government’s efforts to make our province self-sufficient.

The Silver Wave Film Festival is a great opportunity for visitors and residents alike to experience the creativity and talent of our New Brunswick filmmakers and to see that our artists can and do compete with the best in the world.

I would like to thank the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Cooperative, their many volunteers and all the filmmakers from here in New Brunswick and throughout the world whose work will be viewed and enjoyed during this year’s festival.

Have a wonderful time at Silver Wave.

Shawn Graham
Premier

Message from Business New Brunswick
and New Brunswick Film

As Minister responsible for New Brunswick Film, it is with great pride that I offer my congratulations to all those who have made the 2008 Silver Wave Film Festival possible.

With each passing year, New Brunswick’s film, television and new media industry is growing. More than 700 men and women make their living in this sector, contributing to more than $16.5-million worth of productions last year alone. And in 2007, we expect productions to surpass $25-million.

At New Brunswick Film, our staff helps filmmakers, producers, and crews hone their craft. We are also proud to provide financial assistance to help bring their projects to the screen.

At this year’s festival, you will see a number of films that were supported through the Short Film Venture Program – an initiative our government provides to allow up and coming filmmakers create a “calling card” film, and gain valuable experience from industry professionals.

Our government is proud of the talented men and women who are putting New Brunswick on the map as an important filmmaking destination.

Congratulations once again to the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Cooperative, and all those who are making the 2007 Silver Wave Festival such a success.

Greg Byrne, Q.C.
Minister of Business New Brunswick

Message from the Mayor of Fredericton

On behalf of Council and the citizens of Fredericton, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to members of the film community in the province and visitors attending the Silver Wave Film Festival.

The City of Fredericton is proud to support the Silver Wave Film Festival through its Arts, Culture & Heritage Funding Program.

As home to the New Brunswick Filmmakers' Co-op, Fredericton enjoys many contributions the vibrant film sector makes in our community and beyond. Creative screenings during the Film Festival and throughout the year at 'Under the Stars' and the Monday Night Film Series play an important role in the development of filmmakers and animation students of all ages province wide.

Once again, welcome! We look forward to another successful festival.

Brad Woodside
Mayor, City of Fredericton

Message from the National Film Board

The National Film Board of Canada congratulates the New Brunswick Filmmaker's Co-operative on the occasion of its 8th annual Silver Wave Film Festival.

In showcasing a rich selection of current work from New Brunswick and around the world, Silver Wave provides testimony to the region's vibrant and diverse film community.

As Canada's public producer, the NFB has production centres in Moncton and Halifax, and we are privileged to be working with independent filmmakers throughout the region as they craft stories that resonate for cinephiles everywhere.

We are very proud to be associated with this year's Festival.

Bon cinema!

Tom Perlmutter
Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the National Film Board of Canada
